hobbies include dogs and parks

,

Well, it's Friday of our week off. The beautiful days of sleeping in, soaking up sunshine, doing physical labor , and spending all of our time together is quickly coming to an end. One more roadtrip to go :-)

This week we have indulged in all our favorite hobbies: KU basketball, gardening, outdoor jogs, baking, Internet surfing, and... last but certainly not least... the dog park!

We love the dog park. Because we love our dog. And we love parks. So it really is a natural combination. We love it so much, that we decided to borrow The Klines' dog for the afternoon just so we could have two dogs at the dog park. Two is better than one. Unless we're talking about owning two. Hubs is convinced we need another. I'm perfectly content with borrowing extras when Mack-a-zoid needs a pal.

The long, skinny, shiny caramel coated dude is Neosho. Neosho runs laps around Mack-intosh. He's a vizsla. That's just how vizslas are. And we love it. But he's also very obedient and -bonus!- a swimmer! Check this out*:

* Please excuse my voice in these videos. It's not my fault.

Burtday Roadtrip!

,
Sometimes I'm spontaneous. Psych! I'm actually pretty much never spontaneous. But this weekend I tried to fake it. Wednesday afternoon my dad procured tickets to the Elite Eight. He treated my hubs to the spare seat for his burtday, as it is called round here. Very generous. So hubs and pops hit the road on Friday and watched our favorite team take on NC State. Don't worry. They won.

So I drove out there too. So now we have ma and pa and hubs and I in the Lou. What do we do? Overindulge in pasta at 10pm, zone out, wake up and get delish breakfast with friends, then hit the zoo! Duuhhhh. No. No pics of animals to show you. But I did have to stop and smell the flowers and of course got snapshots of those. I'm predicable.*

So then after the zoo we were like "Hey! There happens to be a KU game in town. We should check it out." That is also a lie. We were visibly twitching with excitement before the game. During it we were jittery with nerves, and afterword we were beaming with pride and joy. Yes, they won again. If you ever need a good date idea I highly recommend going to a KU game. Tournament games are best, but take what you can get. You'll have a blast together. Speaking of which...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ROOMIE AND BESTIE AND HUBS.
Love him bunches and bunches. Lots more than when we got married even. And that's saying a lot.

You should tell him happy burtday too! :-)

* Pictures to come soon. Blogging on he iPad without a special app= no pictures. I'll get an app tomorrow. But for today, enjoy words only.

one of these things is not like the others

,
Don't judge me for what you are about to read.

This morning at work I got in the elevator. Now we all know where I work, but for the sake of internet ambiguity I'll just say that this building has a lot of people. This includes lots of people that have been in the business for a long time, lots of people who work here only seasonally, and almost no one that wears anything resembling business professional. It makes my job of getting dressed in the morning much easier. I could throw on a t-shirt that says "Tool", a pair of mom jeans and reeboks and no one would think twice about it. Well, they might think that odd on me because I try not to make a habit of wearing my Tool shirts to work, but generally speaking it would be perfectly acceptable. A coworker was rocking chucks the other day. One green. One orange. No big d.

Even with such a casual culture, there is one unspoken rule that everyone abides by: ladies enter the elevators first. It's has a holding-the-door-for-you kind of chivalry to it that no one questions. Well, there is one man that always breaks that rule, but I'm not kidding when I say he is the only one I can think of.

Well this morning, we added a second "gentleman" to that list. Now don't get me wrong, I don't care if I enter the elevator first, it's just an observation. He's breaking the rules. So he enters the elevator in front of me and I notice his laptop bag is a gorgeous leather. This is exactly what my bestie has wanted for a while and would love for his birthday. I'm about to ask him where he got it when he turns around and I see the tag on the front. Coach. Nevermind.

That's when I realize... this guy is not like the others in our building. His leather bag has to cost more than $500.Yes, I looked on the website. He has wavy, dark brown hair. He's got those thick rimmed glasses that are just slightly oversized. Super in right now, doncha know? He is wearing a JCrew shirt (just like the one I got hubs for Christmas last year). And has his hands in the pockets of his perfectly hemmed jeans like he's posing for a preppy magazine.

Poor guy. He won't last a week.

life in the spring

,
This spring there seems to be a pattern in the air.

Life
The warm weather has arrived sooner than normal.
I read the Hunger Games series.
My wonderful neighbors had baby number two.
A co-worker lost his mother-in-law unexpectedly to a stroke.
Friends from college and from church are pregnant.
A dear friend's friend suffered a series of strokes. She is 32.
The doctor says she won't recover.
I get to be a bridesmaid in the wedding of a great friend.

Dear Spring,

Thanks for reminding me about the cycle of life and death.
I need it. We all do.

Grateful,
Me

all I wanted was pink nails

,
I did! I just really wanted a gel manicure. It started on Sunday when two friends came over and they had just come from the nail salon. Their fun springy nails beckoned. But I said to myself, I said, "No, self! You just got a haircut and have been longing for moroccan oil. You can't spend monies on a manicure."

Well, that was Sunday. Then Monday came and I still wanted a mani. Then Tuesday came in all it's 75 degree showiness and demanded that I get out of the office to get one. I called ahead to make sure I'd have time. It'd be close on my my 65 minute break, but I could do it. And I'd even have time to swing by one of the McD's in town that historically has had Shamrock shakes.

But you know what happened? Traffic was terrible. There was a school bus blocking one lane on Main waiting for the students. And then you make it past the bus to find a car with a guy dropping off his gf for work, but not without a 10 minute make-out session first. Aw, so cute. Barf. This lane is also, for all essential purposes, closed. I make it past both of them to find massive truck after massive bus after massive truck. What in the world?! It's a Tuesday at 11:45! What da' prob'm is?!

So right before getting on the highway I bailed. I decided to give up on the nails and just get my smooth minty shake. But you know where you don't go on Tuesday at what is now noon? McD's on Main. Just don't do it. You'll never get out. 12:50 after your manicure you'll be fine. But straight up 12 noon? No siree-bob. Bad news bears. Don't even try.

You know what all the hub-ub is? The Big 12 tournament is arriving. All the junk and all the teams and all the fans. Now let it be known that I love my Jayhawks. And I love the tournament. But it ruined my perfectly-planned-pretty-pink sunshiney day. Ruuuuude!

Maybe tonight I'll paint my nails pink and make myself a homemade shamrock shake. In the mean time, I'm now back at my desk for my lunch. Hurumph.
