Josh Groban

,
*Sigh*

There are few things in this world that I enjoy more than a powerful, clear, vibrant voice. Josh's just gets me. Every. Single. Time.

I first saw Josh Groban in concert was 2/11/2004. I know what you're thinking. I shouldn't know that date. Don't judge, okay? My mom took me for Valentines. I'll spare you the details but the short version is that we had tickets in the last row but we ended up watching from the first row. Dead center. Orchestra pit. And I don't think I breathed at all during that performance.

When I went with the hubby to see him this week I found that I was even breathing to the melody of the song. That's how much it gets me, people. It's intense. And I love it. I was completely jealous that a girl from the audience got to sing The Prayer with him. And I so desparately wished I could still sing beautifully. Maybe I'll take up piano...

My phone died before I could get any good pictures, but this is what I got.

And this is what the KC Star got.

I'll leave you with this video

*Sigh*

PS- Also thoroughly jealous that my sorority sister, TravelerKate, got to go up on stage with him. Kate, you would.

Stormy weather

,
12:59PM | Gary Lezak reports as many as 12 to 14 tornadoes have touched down in Kansas City area in last 90 minutes.

And they aren't stopping. There have been probably 3 more since that time.

There too many pictures of funnel clouds than I care to count.

You know its bad when you hear from your husband "It is right above us. And spinning. We can see it."

And from the weathermen: "It's like nothing I've ever experienced"  "It's about the most impressive thing I've seen."

When I wasn't in the 4th level of the parking garage our office building, I was looking at the sky.

Missouri and Oklahoma have already had more than their fair share. Be safe, Kansas.
When I think about this weather I think about my mom singing Stormy Weather by Billie Holiday. I have no idea the other words of the song, but I got that much.

Rando.

,
Rando post. Consider yourself warned.

We had a busy weekend and we survived.
I'll spare you the details and give you just a few pics.

Laura came to visit. This pretty well sums up our relationship. She's great.

Sister-in-law graduated from the KU School of Art. Exciting!
Hubs and I decided our kids must go to KU.
We talk the campus and our eyes tear up.
We love love love that place.

We went to the Royals game con mi primo y mi madre.
His b-day present from my parentals.
It was a glorious day for it!

Also, I'm an athlete. Did you know that?
Bah ha ha. PSYCH!
However, yesterday I did run 2 miles in 15 minutes.
I'll let you guess which part of that statement is a lie.
My new name middle name shall be Forrest, I think.
And then we did Ab Ripper X. It's a doosie, I tell ya. A doosie!
I'll be ripped in no time at this rate.
Well, I would be if it wasn't for my sweet tooth...

There were approximately a million other things in between all of that, but thats all for now.
"Enough is as good as a feast."

Spanish

,

Ya know when someone is explaining something and they are being detailed and speaking slowly and you're just not getting it? It's not even that it's going in one ear and out the other, it's just not going in.

Today the partner on this engagement was trying to describe something to me and it was like the teacher in the Peanuts. I just don't understand a word you're saying! And he didn't understand a word I was saying either.

We were both frustrated. It sounded something like...

Finally I said
"I think we're saying the same thing, I'm just saying saying it in Spanish, and you're saying it in English, and we're not getting anywhere."

And we agreed and moved on.

Iowa Kansas Kentucky...

,
Ok so this post has nothing to do with Kentucky, nor does it have much to do with Kansas, but thats just how the song goes, okay?

I've missed you my dear blog. "I shall miss all of you. I shall miss the money I could have made with you!" Name that movie...

Well here's the rundown since I've been gone.
  • Thursday night Mother's day celebration on the patio with salad and wine. The blue cheese stuffed bacon wrapped figs would have been good too if we hadn't left them in the oven too long.
  • Friday morning- Saying goodbye to my pod-buddy at work. Very sad.
  • Friday afternoon- ROADTRIP
We went with some great friends to visit some other great friends in Ames, Iowa. We were pretty excited to see their new dig since they moved and bought in January, but mostly it was wonderful to see them. These are the kinds of friends where you dont have to force conversation, you don't have to be afraid to tell them you don't like bowling, and when you mess up and put together the "5 Minute [Ceiling] Fan" all wrong and it takes 3 hours and causes sore arms and necks and wounds your pride you can still laugh your way through the frustration. The kind of people that make you enjoy looking at geo-thermal tubes and not mind walking through cobwebs. The friends that don't laugh at you when you ask what a PHD is. The friends who do amazing impersonations of Alf and Stephen Hawking in charades. These are our friends. And we love them. Pictures to come soon!

We put the pedal to the metal last night and got back just in time for my baptism. I'll tell you about that soon. Then we had small group at another friends adorable new house, raced to get my back packed, and was off to the airport early this morning.

This is my life as a 24 year old.
I am 24, right?
It's crazy. But every day is a new day. And a gift. So cool.

"This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it."- Ps 118:24

Me [2:31 PM]:

Friend [2:33 PM]:

Me [2:33 PM]:
well i was having a casual debate with my neighbor the other day about how it starts and we have differing opinions but we're going to watch it together so i cant look it up so i was taking a poll
Friend [2:34 PM]:
Oh. what's your opinion?
Me [2:34 PM]:

Friend [2:34 PM]:

Me [2:35 PM]:

Friend [2:35 PM]:

To you, my friends, how does it start? Don't cheat and look it up! That will ruin it for all of us.

laundry

,
Have we talked about laundry before? If so, I apologize. If not, you're missing out man.

I was talking recently with some good friends and I asked which of them usually does the laundry. They thought for a minute and decided that which ever of them needed something done would toss in a load and that's how laundry got done.

That is also how laundry worked at my house when we were growing up. If you needed your jeans clean for tomorrow you best grab everyones jeans and do a load.

Today our laundry is best described as constant. This is what happens when I save up for one laundry day a week:

 Or maybe this
That is a queen bed folks.

And then I want to curl up and cry myself to sleep.

So I try to do a little laundry every day 'round these parts. I still don't like it. But I don't hate it quite so badly.

If you'll excuse me I need to go clear a smaller pile of this laundry-wonderfulness from my bed tonight and go to sleep.

Thanks for sharing in my woes.

Sunny day playlist

,
Did you know I work in a library?
I do. And its quiet.
The kinda quiet where occasionally you'll get blast emails coming from the office manager saying
"shhhhh! people are wooooorking!"
And then I want to vomit.

So Pandora is very important to me, you see.
And after listening to my 40 free hours on Pandora, my iPod is very important too.

And today I'm wishing I had a playlist or station titled "Sunny"
It would hold things like Carrie Underwood's Play On, Rascal Flatts, Eagles' Hotel California as well as some songs from the 60s, some stuff by LFO, and who knows what else.

So tell me folks, what would be on your summer playlist? I'll add your favs to mine.

Vitamin D and grandma

,
This is my grandma.
She's a bit of a nut.
Well, the whole family is really.
And we love her a lot.
She'll be 90 this year and she's still kickin.
I'll let you guess which one is the grandma and which one is her cutie little great grand daughter.

A few months ago we invited my grandma over for dinner.
She brought us a fruit basket.
So grandma like. And so cute.
And She loved our house. It even reminded her of an old song about a grey house.
Everyone in my family looooves music. We get it from her.
The next day she brought us a copy of the lyrics to the song.
Along with a whole watermelon.
She's one of those people whose emotions are slightly polarized and extremely passionate.
Much like the rest of my family.

My grandma also belives in lots and lots of vitamins and Noni Juice.
If you've never tried the stuff, spare yourself.
But she says it can cure cancer.
You can try it if you want, but consider yourself warned that the taste is horrid.
There goes the passion I got from my grandma :-)

Anyway, that day at dinner I asked her what vitamins hubster and I should be taking since we're in our 20's and fairly healthy.
She thought for a second and said Vitamin D.
She's a gardener. I get that from her too.

This morning I took my sweet time as I watered my garden this morning before work.
Then I got here and looked out the window...
There is so much Vitamin D in Kansas City today
and it's calling my name.

In honor of my grandma, I think I should take a personal wellness day.
I need to soak up lots of Vitamin D. Grandma's orders.

PS. When I was looking for that picture of my grandma I found this picture of my cousin.
He's one of my favorite people on earth.
He gives really good hugs.
And he loves opening white elephant gifts :-)

embarassment

,
Sometimes people ask me what I blog about. And ya know what I blog about?
Of course you do. You're reading it!
I blog about whatever comes to my "mouth"at any given moment.

So you, my dear friends, have a special treat in for you today!
Not really. But hang with me anyway.

Know what's embarrassing? My stomach.
And not in the external way.
Although I'm not saying that is anywhere near perfect.
I'm talkin about the internal kind.

There are 2 aspects to this:
  1. My bizarre eating habits
  2. My very weak stomach
1. Bizarre eating
Do you know of anyone, other than a hobit, that has 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners? Yeah. This kid. I always eat half a meal at each sitting and save the other for later cause I kinda need to eat constantly or else I sweat and get nauseous and have hungry burps*. Its frustrating and embarrasing.
* If you don't know what hungry burps are, they are the little burps you get when your body is very mad at you and is about to retaliate. And when I say you I mean me. Which brings me to my next point...

2. Very very weak stomach
Amusement parks are easy. Lots of people struggle with those. But do you know of anyone that has lost their cookies on a regular basis on planes, trains, automobiles, buses, elevators, moving walkways... okay maybe the moving walkways was as exaggeration, but the elevator was not! I kid you not I can be driving to work one day and out of the blue my stomach bottoms-out* and I think I'm gonna lose it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but its always terrible.
Tonight it happened with two managing directors in traffic to Durham. I had the AC up full blast, drank lots of water, and prayed. I survived. Barely.
* If you don't know what it means to have your stomach bottom-out, it is exactly like it sounds. It feels like the floor below your stomach just falls and all your stomach falls with it and suddenly there is a gaping hole in your body that is just hollow and terrible.

And if you've never experienced either of these feelings,
you can be gracious,
but you can't understand,
so please just be gracious with me :-)

So thats my woes for the day. And if that is the worst it gets then I'll take it. In the mean time, I'm off to eat my second dinner. G'night lovelies :-)

Alive and kickin

,
Boy I feel boring. I haven't posted in several days cause I haven't had anything to say! Well thats not entirely true. I really wanted to tell you about laundry. But I left my picture of it on my camera at home. Womp womp. Because laundry is really exciting and I know you would have loved it. I'll tell you about it when I get home.

And to be honest with you, what is a blog post without any pictures? Unless its a good story, its pretty lame. No offense people. Anywho, here's whats going on:

Friday night we went to see my sister-in-law's art show and ya know what? I was downright mean to everyone that night. I was coming down with a cold and was irritable and grouchy so I didn't enjoy it. To all the people in the wake of the storm of my attitude that night, please forgive me.

I spent 5 hours in the garden on Saturday. Lesson learned: Do not. I repeat, do not ever put down two layers of plastic in a garden to keep the weeds out. That's just plain cruel. It causes the whole garden and all the mulch to mold. Did you know mulch molds? It does. Then you have to dig it out. For 5 hours.

Sunday was crazy. Just lots of stuff to do to prep for Monday.

Monday was crazy too. I slept just under 5 hours (yes, thats good for curing a cold) and got up at 4:45am to get myself looking business appropriate and out the door in 15 minutes and on to the airport and to Raleigh. My mucus-inflated-head was about to explode on the going ups and my queasy-measley-stomach barely survived the coming downs. But, thanks be to God, I made it without bursting into tears or using the little white bag in the seatback. And here I am in Raleigh.

The project is going well so far. And we have had beautiful weather. But ya know what? I DO NOT EAT 3 MEALS A DAY! Aside from missing my roomie and dog like crazy, that is the worst part about travel for me. Did you know that some people only eat 3 times a day and they don't usually have chocolate at those meals? It's terrible. I'm a 5 meals, 4 servings of fruit, and 3 servings of chocolate kinda person.

But hey. I'm alive and kickin. How bout you?
