when I was in Oklahoma

,
One time, way back when, my tall friend said something about Oklahoma. I told her I'd never been to Oklahoma. Later on I said "when I was in Oklahoma..." and she got really confused. Actually she just called me a liar, but who's counting? She's an accountant. Pun intended :-) The truth is, I was in the play Oklahoma in high school, but had never been to fine state. Confusing, huh?

Well this weekend I decided to finally make the trek. Hubs is still working redic hours, so I decided to pick up and head out of town to see a great friend. One of my bridesmaids to be exact. There were only two that weren't family so you know she must be cool. We never went to school together, haven't lived in the same city since high school, and only talk a few times a year. Even with odds against us, we always seem to just pick up where we left off. I knew the quick trip would be worth it so I drove down Saturday morning and back Sunday afternoon. I was only there for 24.5 hours, but we had a great time.

The skies were blue the whole way there and the fields were a rich green as things are just starting to grow for the spring.
"The skies were blue and everything was so green and fragrant I just had to be a part of it!" Not from Oklahoma. That's from SoM.
It was so pretty! Yes, you just heard me refer to the drive through Kansas and Oklahoma as pretty. Am I imagining things? Have my standards gone down? I need to get to Europe, or at least Colorado, stat. Regardless, I had a good time.

What did we do? Nothing. We ate fabulous bagel sandwiches and caught up on life. We went shopping but I was completely distracted by the KU game.

I ended up watching the play by play on ESPN mobile. I quite literally jumped up and down and might have been potentially obnoxious when Taylor made the final point for the win. Then I thought to myself  I just watched the play-by-play of a college basketball game on my phone for the last hour and a half and didn't look at any of the beautiful trinkets all around. What has my husband done to me?! Oh dear sweet alma mater, I love thee. Within 15 minutes of the winning shot I walked out of a store with $100 worth of clothes. I must shop when I'm happy.

The next morning I got coffee with an old friend from church. Remember the reasons why I love coffee? Yep, still true. It was a great time :-)

Other highlights from the weekend:
Painting my nails lilac
Eating watered down instant rice
Introducing my friend to The Help
Sixty five degree weather
Walking across a wooden bridge and fearing we might blow off
Getting 33MPG there and back

All in all, a great way to spend 24.5 spare hours.

the ride

,
I'm kind of a snot about some things. Like walking in a straightline. And using words correctly like to/too and their/there/they're. Those are the only things though. I'm never a snot about anything else...

I'm also a snot about Hondas and Toyotas. I just love them I can't help it. My first and second cars were Hondas. And my sister's first and second cars were Toyotas. And we ran those suckers to the ground. Or into other cars. Or other cars ran into us. Point is, because we have each loved all four of those cars I have an unfair bias. I am aware of this.

So natually, when I sold my Vibe last week
yes, the one with the busted tail light (hubs fixed that though)
the one that ruined the heels of my shoes
the one that I loved driving cause it was a six-speed
we only looked at those two makes.

And we came home with
drum roll, please

A neeeew caaar!
(To be read in the voice of Bob Barker. Not the Bob Barker that is the grandfather of my hubs, but the one from The Price Is Right.)

Specifically, we came home with a new [to us] Accord. She's perty.

I think hubs and I might go cruisin' in our new ride. Peace out kids.

something un-interesting

,
Wanna hear something un-interesting?

That's how I usually start my conversations with my friends at work. Too bad two of my four go-to people for story time bailed on me and moved on to other jobs and I never work with the other two anymore. LAME.

I've been working quite a bit more than usual. I'm actually working when I'm at work these days. What a concept, I know. And when I'm at home. And sometimes I go home to change and then go back to work. Well, just today, but still. Work is why I've been neglecting you, dear blog friends. Forgive me.

Anyway, this is how I start my conversations with my friends:

Wanna hear something un-interesting?

Fact #1
I drive a manual.
A standard.
A six-speed.
That's right folks. Six.
When my mom taught me to drive I was a little jerky about it. Not rude-jerky, although thats possible, but more like the herky-jerky kind. So my mom taught me to rest my foot on the ground and just press the pedal with the ball of my foot. I have driven with my heels on the ground for the last 2 years and 8 months. Which is how long I've had my car in case you didn't catch that.

You've loving this story, aren't you?

Fact #2
I went car shopping with my mom this weekend. I'm trying to convince her to buy a new car so I can buy her's. No luck so far.

Fact #3
I don't buy nice shoes. And I don't buy shoes often. I just wear them out and then they look sad. Especially the bunion part and the heel part.
Don't worry, I polish them. Once a quarter or so.
That's once every 4 months for all ya'lls who don't work in the corprat uhmericah.
Well last Thursday I went and bought a pair of City Flats from the Gap (in pewter, not bronze).
I actually went back to get them cause I'd turned them down once already but they were cute and they were calling to me. I bought them. I already scuffed the toes. And I wore them when I went back to work tonight. I was driving home just now and I thought "I hope I don't ruin the heels of these like I do all my other shoes..."

LIGHT BULB!

It's the car! It's because I drive with my heels on the ground! I can't have nice shoes cause I drive a manual... and cause I have terrible feet.

I'm officially adding this to my list of reasons I need/want a new car. AND fun fact: I've been telling hubs for a while my favorite car color is pewter. The same color of my new shoes! Coincidence? I think not.

Maybe my stories are why they left me...

Yesterday

,
Yesterday was a largely poopy day at work. But enough about work.

At lunchtime I went to get my car to drive home from work when i saw
DUN-DUN-DUUUUUUN
The tail light was busted. After explaining this to a few people, I thought to myself, why am I refferring to it as "busted" when it would be far classier to say "broken?" You know why? Cause I've been listening to Mercedes. I'll bust the windows out ya carrrr. And no it didn't mend my broken heart...

Back to my story. It was broken and I don't know why. I didn't hit anything. And nothing else was damage. Oh well. We're waiting on an estimate to get it fixed. Poor car.

Speaking of car- this is funny- this morning at the grocery store this guy sees me and the conversation goes as follows:
"Hey, they don't make those anymore, do they?"
"No, I don't think so." I later found out they definitely do. I wasn't trying to lie. It just happened!
"I've been trying to find a used one, but there just aren't many out there."
*Hmm... I should ask him how much he's willing to pay...* but instead "Yeah I think there's a reason they don't make them anymore actually. Blah blah blah. I think you'd be better off with a Matrix if you're looking for a similar car.

But after dealing with my vehicle that I don't like but am very grateful for, and aside from work I'm not talking about work right now we had dinner and watched a movie with a few of our neighbors last night. Always a good time.
