thoughts on a tuesday

,
Know what's weird? Color names.

Raspberry pink- light pink. Nothing like a raspberry.

Kelly green? Anyone know who Kelly is?

Burnt orange? You mean orangish red?

Can anyone tell me the difference between fuschia and magenta? No you can't.

I'm convinced midnight blue originated with VanGogh. Cause the sky around me is black at midnight.

I realize you can google the answers to most of these, but still. They are still silly.

Over and out.

Things I do that are weird

,
I don't really have anything to write about, but I don't want to leave yall' without anything to read. So here are a few things I do that are weird. Or cool. Ya know. Depending on how you view things.

I substitute flax meal for eggs in cookies and sometimes breads. Not cakes. One tablespoon of flax meal and three tablespoons of water. Let her sit for a minute, then just toss it in when you would the eggs.

I use a nail buffer on my toenails.

I clean my coffee pot with vinegar. 1 or 2 cups of white vinegar and 6 or 8 cups of water and brew with no filter (no coffee. duh.) Then pour out that water and run through clean water once or twice. Fresh as a daisy.

I wake up in the middle of the night and realize I left towels in the washer.

I freeze fruits and veggies that are approaching their shelf life. If you know you aren't going to finish your grapes before they wrinkle, freeze them. Eat them for dessert later. If you have half an onion in your fridge and you're about to head out of town, dice and freeze. Mexican dishes and breakfast burritos love frozen onions. And I love having them pre-chopped.

I file my personal emails. If you don't know about Google filters you need to.

In other news, you need to know about Micah | Michelle. Lovely couple singing simple and lovely songs. This morning I'm enjoying Sharpened in Time, a song about the joy of marriage. This is one to dance to in the kitchen :-) I'll leave you with a few lines...

We've got an easy kind of love. The kind that makes you say at the end of the day it's more than I deserve.

Not that it's never been work you see, but in this life somethings will be worth the effort.

Hope Handmade

,
Alright I should be working, but I'm not. Cause work people are annoying me today. I'm actually looking at a blog that I stalk. And I saw a link to this etsy and I just loved it a ton.

So for all ya'lls that are having babies or live next door to one or have one in your familia, check out this cuteness:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/shophopehandmade

And the best part? It comes with a story. Read what the owner has to say:

In 2011, the Lord answered "no" to our plans for growing our family.

Our hearts were broken, but then God gave us a new desire: to adopt. We began the domestic infant adoption process in December of 2011, and we can't wait to grow our little family this way!

hope: handmade was opened to help a little bit with the expenses we have and will continue to incur during this journey. 100% of the funds earned through this little shop will go to our adoption fund. This shop is also an outworking of Stacey's desire to not just wait, but to "actively wait," expecting God to move and blessing others in the process. With each stitch we think of and pray for the little ones who will wear and use these items, and look forward to the day when OUR little one will too!

This just in: Cooking Light

,
I love fruit.
Including fruit for dessert.
Add fresh basil and a warm vinaigrette and I'm a goner.
(Tangent: Goner looks like goon. Not always interchangeable).

Anywho, I need to make this soon.

This came in last month's Cooking Light and it is pretty. I said "this just in" because my July edition just came and I hadn't read June yet! I've been too busy being fickle about bathroom colors and haven't done much else around the house. More to come on the paint indecision.

The June edition has lots of great stuff and I'm only halfway through it.
This article on the nutrition of fruits and veggies makes me want my own garden really badly. Instead, I will go to the farmers market this weekend and skip the gym. Wait, is that bad?
How simple and delicious do these scallops look?
Aren't these overpriced bakery towels adorable?
I'll probably make this cashew chicken in the next 3 hours. Or 3 days if I'm lazy.
And did you know that pina coladas are a death trap for your swim suit? I didn't! I'm trying this recipe makeover ASAP.

As a note, can I just encourage those of you who have an iPad to read magazines on it? Better Homes and Gardens on the iPad is my favorite. Cooking Light is kinda tricky to setup, but wonderful cause I like to have links to the web pages with recipe reviews. I don't always trust the ones they print, you know. You get extra links to where to buy things, interactive articles, and all kinda off good stuff.

Baseball

,
Welcome to the ball park
There is lots of dirt.
And bugs.
And cigarette smoke.
And 10-12 year old kids.

And bitterness.
Kids just want to play.
Want to sit out cause they are tired.
Want to go to McDonalds.
Want to throw a perfect strike.
Want to win the game. Right or wrong.

Parents just want to cheer on their kids.
Want the game to be over so they can get out of the sun and do their own thing.
Want the umps to be consistent.
Want their kid to hit the ball.
Want to win the game. Right or wrong.
Coaches just want to play baseball.
Want to teach kids to play ball.
Want to take a break from work.
Want the kids to keep their heads up and cheer for one another.
Want to take them to get giant drinks at McDonald's.
Want to teach them to work hard.
Want to teach boys how to be godly men.
And maybe win a game along the way.
This is where we live on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
And sometimes all the days in between.

This is why we have to keep sunscreen in the car and have hilarious tan lines anyway.
And realize that the errands we could be doing can wait.

This is where we teach boys a different meaning to the word "cup"
And that the N word isn't appropriate to say in public.

This is where we get spilled drinks in the car and dirty shoes on the seats.
And learn to not sweat the small stuff.

This is where parents yell at us and call us terrible names.
And we are reminded that the approval of men doesn't matter.

I still don't love the game of baseball.
But I love the ball park.

I heart donuts

,
It's National donut day!
Free cake donuts to anyone that walks in the door at Lamars.
(aka Brett can't bring me one at work)

As Tom and Donna might say,

treat yo'self!

PS- Check to make sure the location near you is participating.
PPS- Krispie Kreme is doing the same thing, but their donuts are icky. Don't do it.
